The Land Rover Discovery Sport plays an important role in this British SUV maker's lineup. It's not ultra posh or imposing like the Range Rover, but it does bring an upscale seven-seat interior to a sub-$45,000 price point attainable by many aspiring luxury vehicle buyers.
Following an update last year that brought refreshed styling and new engines, the 2019 Disco Sport gains a new Landmark appearance and trim package; the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system gets a redesigned interface; and a new smartphone package bundles the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration platforms into a no-cost option.
Like last year's model, all 2019 Discovery Sport models use a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine. In SE, HSE, HSE Luxury and Landmark trims, it makes 237 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque; HSE Dynamic and HSE Luxury Dynamic models boast a high-output motor good for 286 hp and 295 lb-ft. All trims come standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.
The Disco Sport occupies an interesting spot in the luxury utility segment, being one of the least expensive ways to get three rows of seats. This Landie's starting price splits the difference between cars like the BMW X2 and X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and GLC. Notably, all of those are five-seats, and the X2 and GLA are a lot smaller.
Discovery Sport SE comes standard with 18-inch wheels, body coloured door handles, cruise control with speed limiter, rear parking sensors, heated/power-folding side mirrors with approach lights, 10-way power front seats, partial leather upholstery, second-row seats that slide and recline, a 10-speaker stereo, 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and ambient interior lighting.
HSE adds xenon headlights with LED signature lighting, front parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, auto-dimming side mirrors, 12-way front seats and perforated grained leather upholstery.
The HSE Luxury package brings 19-inch wheels, chrome exterior door handle trim, automatic emergency braking, Windsor leather seating, a 380-watt Meridian stereo with 11 speakers, navigation, configurable ambient lighting and illuminated front tread plates.
Landmark boasts a "specially curated design theme" that builds on the HSE Luxury, and includes, among other things, an ebony headliner, gray contrast roof treatment and a graphite grille.
Land Rover's fuel consumption estimates for the Discovery Sport are 11.4/9.3 L/100 km (city/highway).
